Feeling Stressed Flex It Out And Relax

Have you been feeling stressed out more than usual lately? Has all the doom and gloom talk about the recession in the economy finally taken it’s toll on you? Does the constant barrage of negative headlines in the news make you want to toss you TV out the window? I think that if these descriptions fit your situation as to how you are feeling on a daily basis, you can at least take solace in knowing that you are not alone.

Millions of us around the world are feeling the angst and stress of these very same things. Many of us have our special ways of dealing with stress on a daily basis. With everyone having an opinion on how to best save the world and the global economies it has gotten quite hard to turn off all that noise lately.

Some people turn to breathing exercises while other people use exercise itself as a stress reliever. Meditation is another favorite of a lot of people but there stress reliving concept that I have actually seen a couple people do recently. I am mentioning it now because the thought of it is actually kind of funny to me. Basically if you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out what some people are doing is stressing(flexing muscles) out more to de-stress??

Walter Miller (LOC)The technical term for it is actually progressive muscle relaxation. It’s actually quite funny when you think of the process for it. You are feeling stressed so what do you do you stress your muscles more only now you do it on purpose and with some direction. The idea is to do one body part at a time and focus on those muscles for say 10 seconds, flexing them to the point that when you release it forces them to “relax”.

From all that I have read on it most suggestions on doing this type of stress relieving technique is to start at your feet and work your way up your body. In a sitting position simply focus on let’s say your right foot and flex for 10 seconds then release. Breath it out for a few seconds then do the same to your left foot. The right calf and left calf so on and so on until you flex and relax all your muscle groups all the way up to your head. The people I know that do this routine both swear by it. They both do it at least once a day with one of them doing for over a year now.
